A New Year brings New Beginnings

Wishing everyone an amazing New Year- what are you going to do this year to reach out and change another person’s life?

My wonderful and amazing other half, Robert and I went to our neighbor’s party last night to bring in the New Year. It was the first time I’ve busted out the point and shoot in…. MONTHS. I’ll admit, I had to take a couple of minutes before snapping these pictures to remember how to operate the camera. ;)

The past year has brought some of the biggest changes to my life that I’ll most likely ever see. When I look at the last 10 years I’ve gone from living miles from anyone way out in Western Nebraska to living in metro Atlanta commuting to work on a daily basis. (Something I swore I’d never do…) Graduated from high school and moving 1300 miles from home to attend college. I started college and then successfully graduated. I’d never flown on a jet until I was a Junior in high school before I completed my Junior year of college I’d traveled internationally twice. I’d even traveled South East Asia alone for 6 weeks. I loved it so much I decided to return after graduation and live there for 4 months.

In the last 13 months I’ve gotten engaged, planned a wedding, brought Maggie, my Yorkie Poo home, married my best friend and then he took me to the home of my all time favorite movie Cool Runnings. I then picked up my camera and decided I wanted to take control of the picture and started shooting on Manual and after lots of learning, practice and hard work I’ve started a business that will soon replace my current job as I look forward to going full time being a photographer. It’s far from where I want to take it, but I’ve realized it’s like life and you’ve gotta just take it one step at a time.

In the midst of the seeming craziness around me this Fall my husband and I also purchased our first home and have worked on getting settled in. :-D

We took a weekend trip to Vegas (I’d never been) to see the sights, explore, and spend some time together. I’ve always wanted to see the Grand Canyon and ride in a helicopter so He suprised me with a helicopter tour of Hoover Dam, the Grand Canyon, and the Vegas Strip SAWEET! It was SO fun!

Then it was our first Christmas together and that’s exactly how we spent it- at home and together. :)

So how could I possibly Top a year as full and exciting as 2009?

I think the adventure and challenge that lies ahead in starting my photography business and continuing to push myself to not get caught in what is comfortable to continually challenge what I know and to be different. I’ve got so many fun and exciting plans for 2010 and I can’t wait until they become reality.

After seeing The Blindside the other night it’s made me stop and think. It’s so easy to get caught up in the daily routine or get so busy with what is going on in my life and be ignorant to those who may need help or be hurting around me. She didn’t have to turn that car around and if she hadn’t there wouldn’t be the movie there is today. It’s not about the movie though, it’s about taking the time to extend your hand to someone in need, and no matter what others around you may think- you continue because you believe it’s the right thing to do. If you havne’t seen the movie yet, I highly recommend it. If each of us helped one person/family this year- the world would see the biggest change it’s ever seen in 2010. Think about it!

Make 2010 a year that you’ll remember forever!
