Saturday June 19th was such a special day and I have so many people to thank for their help in making it a success! Awhile back I was introduced to the Jones family and immediately fell in love. They are a family with so much love, courage, strength, patience and pure faith it’s humbling and inspiring all at the same time. Little Skylar has SMA type I and her parents fight a daily battle to keep her alive.
They’ve been prisoners to their home for the past several weeks/months due to not having a safe way to transport Skylar. She has to constantly be near her medical equipment and has to always be reclined so she doesn’t suffocate. This makes allowing her to ride in the backseat of a car in a traditional car seat impossible. After doing family pictures for them I wanted to do more- and after giving it some thought and dreaming big…. I decided a fundraiser geared around other families taking the time to capture precious memories with their loved ones would be the perfect way to have a great time- meet her friends and family and support such a wonderful and deserving family. The whole day ran quite smoothly and with the help of Jessica and Chris (two other photographers), and friends from our small group, family, and some of the Jones’ friends we served nearly 40 families and are well on our way to raising nearly $5000 so far for this family. Ashley was actually able to start looking and truly shopping for the right van this past weekend and she couldn’t have been more excited. :)
A huge thanks to all the families who came out to support the Jones family. Many of them didn’t know Ashley, Kyle or Skylar- but their hearts were still big enough to swing by and participate. It was just another little dream I chased… another little goal I set.. I’ve been aching to go serve and do more overseas again… and then it hit me- I don’t have to leave home to change the lives of others. If you participated Saturday- you were part of something real- something that will truly change the lives of the Jones family- and this is truly only the beginning. :)
