This next week I’ll be spending it away from my computer- out of the office and spending a lot of time in the air and on the road. That’s right- I’m headed home! It’s been over 14 months since I saw my family and I couldn’t be more excited to get out West and have some time away from the city. :) I love Denver and the mountains and look forward to shooting some beautiful families there before making my way up to the Western side of Nebraska watching all my siblings participate in the 4-H horse show and then mounting a horse on Thursday night myself and competing in some speed races on horseback! Phew- it’s been- yep over a year since I’ve been in the saddle… so I’m sure I”ll be a little sore… and I do plan to get it all on video… so you’ll have to stay tuned next week for video posts- right here on the blog!!
After the crazy horse events Thursday night it’ll be off for my Grandparents house.. it’s been several years since I’ve made it out that far. It’s the place I spent the first 14 years of my life- 30 miles from the post office (they get mail every other day), 65 miles from the grocery store, and doctor and over 3 miles from the nearest neighbor. Silence and Serenity- where cell phones have no service and they still have to use a modem to connect to the internet. It’s absolutely beautiful country- black as night after the sun goes down- and on a clear night you can set out and watch shooting stars if you like.
I’m stoked to document my grandparents on their ranch- where they’ve lived and worked for more than 40 years. I’ve always wanted to record their story- to hear the stories of their life again and writing them down. To hear about the horse pulled hay wagons and what it was like to be birthed and raised in a sod house. Ohh the stories my grandfather has of him and his three brothers… and where they’ve come. It boggles my mind to think of what they’ve seen in all their years- the change in transportation and electricity and running water… to cell phones and access to anything you’d like via the internet.. I’m excited to share their story with you.
Then I’ll be up to visit my Aunt and Uncle and my cousins… one of which was recently engaged to his beautiful girlfriend- Courtney. I’m stoked to do their engagement session… in the open fields and hills of the Nebraska Sandhills. After my evening with them and some other old friends it’ll be off to Chadron to meet another amazing family that’s known my family from the very beginning. Megan is a senior and wanted something different for her senior pictures- and I’m honored that she’s asked me to mark this time in her life. I can’t wait to see and catch up with her and her family.
Phew- then it’s back in the car again for another several hour journey… back home to meet my husband and family and spend more time with the kids. The excitement is never ending.. and as you can see.. I don’t know that I’d call this much of a “vacation” but rather.. maybe a Wild West Adventure? :-D Regardless- I’m ready for a change in pace, scenery, and looking forward to late night conversations under the stars.
I hope to post something to the blog while I’m gone- we’ll see how their internet holds up ;). You can track my journey and excitement via Twitter (L3photography) or facebook (www.facebook.com/lightlovelaughter). I’ll keep those updated as much as possible.
Here’s a map of where my journey will take me..

But for now- I’ll leave you with a few of my favorite images from my last journey home- the country side and a couple of a few of my little sisters. I look forward to sharing all the fun and adventure when I return!

She kissed him.. and in return got some hair in her mouth. haha

Blue skies- green grass.. Beautiful. (This is truly what it looks like out West- where there’s no pollution to cast a haze on the blue sky and white clouds!)
